Samuli Peltonen is a young virtuoso cellist who first studied cello with Ferenc Gyimes and Jussi Peltonen at the Southern Ostrobothnian Music School. The years 1998-2002 he studied at the Turku Conservatory with Timo Hanhinen. Now being a cellist in Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra he is also finalising his studies in Arto Noras’ cello class.
Samuli Peltonen was the winner of the first K. Penderecki Cello Competition in Poland 2008 and Turku National Cello Competition in 2006. He has also won second prize in Baltic-Nordic duo competition with Anna-Mari Murdvee and fourth prize in Paulo International Cello Competition in 2007.
Peltonen has attended to master classes with teachers like Fred Sherry, Heinrich Shiff, Gary Hofmann, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Torleif Thedeen, Frans Helmersson, Martti Rousi and Marko Ylönen.
Peltonen has performed both as a soloist and a chamber musician in Finland and abroad. He has played as a soloist with many Finnish orchestras such as Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta.
Samuli Peltonen performs on 1698 Granzino cello on loan from Pohjola Bank Art Foundation.
